Louisville Ballet’s 2026–2027 season marks a milestone 75th Anniversary, celebrating the company’s rich legacy while embracing a bold vision for the future. Known for blending classical technique with contemporary innovation, the Ballet once again delivers a lineup that is both visually captivating and emotionally engaging, appealing to longtime patrons and new audiences alike.

The season opens in August with Hamlet & Ophelia (August 5-9), a collaboration with Kentucky Shakespeare as part of the free Shakespeare in the Park festival. Choreographed by Roger Creel, this outdoor production reimagines Shakespeare’s tragedy through movement, offering a fresh and immersive take set against the lively backdrop of Central Park’s summer arts scene.

In October, the company presents Frankenstein (October 30-31), a haunting and atmospheric adaptation of Mary Shelley’s gothic novel. Timed for Halloween weekend, this emotionally driven production explores themes of isolation, ambition, and identity, showcasing the Ballet’s ability to translate complex storytelling into powerful physical expression.

A centerpiece of the season returns in December with The Brown-Forman Nutcracker (Dec. 11-21). This beloved holiday tradition continues to enchant audiences with its elaborate sets, dazzling costumes, and Tchaikovsky’s iconic score performed live by the Louisville Orchestra.For many, it remains a cherished annual experience and a hallmark of the city’s holiday season.

February brings a bold stylistic shift with Carmen (Feb. 12-13, 2027), reimagined by choreographer Andrea Schermoly and set in the glamour of 1970s Las Vegas. This vibrant interpretation transforms the classic tale into a story of passion and independence, centering on a magnetic heroine navigating love and rivalry beneath neon lights. The production blends theatrical flair with contemporary energy.

In March, Bourbon & Ballet (March 19-21, 2027) offers a more intimate and experimental experience. This choreographers’ showcase highlights original works by Company and Studio Company artists, presenting a diverse range of creative voices and styles. Paired with a signature cocktail or mocktail, the program delivers a uniquely Louisville take on performance.

The season concludes in May with Momentum (May 21-23, 2027), a dynamic collection of contemporary works that underscores the evolution of ballet. Featuring choreography by Alejandro Cerrudo and Adam Hougland alongside a world premiere, the program emphasizes innovation, musicality, and bold visual storytelling.
