Broadway in Louisville is excited for the return of the hit musical, Come From Away, January 11 and 12 for three special performances.

The critically acclaimed Broadway musical tells the remarkable true story of what transpired in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, during the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The show, written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, opened on Broadway in 2017 and quickly gained widespread praise for its powerful message of kindness, humanity, and resilience in the face of tragedy.

It’s that kind of energy, authenticity, and vulnerability that audiences can look forward to when one of Broadway’s most iconic musicals, Les Misérables, comes to Louisville in October.

Kentucky Center Celebration: 40 Years of Memories

The Kentucky Center opened in November of 1983 under the direction of Gov. John Y. Brown and a combined project budget from the state as well as local donors. Brown was quoted as saying there hasn’t been a more productive investment by the state than that of the arts center. He might be correct! 

 

Over the years, The Kentucky Center has been the anchor for the arts and home to the major productions of Broadway in Louisville, the magical concerts of the Louisville Orchestra, the elegance of the Louisville Ballet and some of the biggest names in music, comedy, and entertainment. The Kentucky Center has hosted world leaders, presidential debates, and town halls on its stages. For 40 years, the flagship venue has proven to have been a great investment for the community, the city of Louisville and the entire commonwealth.

Performance Preview: Broadway In Louisville presents Annie: The Musical – Feb. 14-19

We could all use a little more hope and joy in our lives right now, and that’s exactly what the iconic musical Annie brings to the stage. It tells the story of a young girl who dreams of a life outside the miserable orphanage where she lives. When she’s chosen to spend the holidays with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, she finds herself caught up in the excitement and joy of the season.

 

But it’s not all fun and games — Annie also has to confront the scheming Miss Hannigan, who runs the orphanage. Along the way, she befriends a lovable mutt named Sandy and learns that holding onto hope when times are tough can take an awful lot of determination. Luckily, Annie is full of determination in that small, scrappy package of hers.

 

For generations, Little Orphan Annie has reminded theatergoers that sunshine is always right around the corner, and now the best-loved musical of all time is back — just when we need it most. 

 

That’s why PNC Broadway in Louisville is bringing the Tony Award-winning musical back to The Kentucky Center from February 14 to 19, 2023. The all-new tour, produced by TROIKA Entertainment LLC, is sure to be the perfect pick-me-up.

Jagged Little Pill 2-Show National Tour Premiere Set For Louisville Aug. 31 & Sept. 1

PNC Broadway in Louisville, in partnership with Kentucky Performing Arts, announced the upcoming Louisville premiere of Jagged Little Pill at the Kentucky Center August 31 – September 1.

Inspired by the seminal rock album of the same name by seven-time Grammy Award winner Alanis Morissette (she/her), tickets to the Tony and Grammy awarding-winning production’s two performances will go on sale July 26 and will be available at kentuckyperformingarts.org.

PNC Broadway in Louisville is proud to announce the 2022-2023 Season which opens with the return of the beloved theatrical masterpiece, Fiddler on the Roof and is followed by one of Hollywood’s most beloved romantic stories of all time, Pretty Woman: The Musical. After the new year, families will get a dose of optimism and hope when Annie returns to Louisville for the first time in nearly 17 years! The season concludes with three hot premieres, the first of which is Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations. It’s followed by the Tony Award®-winning Broadway sensation Hadestown, and Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork, To Kill A Mockingbird.

Come From Away director Christopher Ashley received the 2017 Tony for Best Director of a Musical.

PNC Broadway in Louisville Announces 2021-2022 Season

Despite a further delay to the start of the 2021-22 season, PNC Broadway in Louisville is excited to welcome patrons back in November for an incredible roster of shows, beginning with Waitress. All but two of the originally slated shows have been rescheduled.

While we don’t have all of the details in place yet, we are actively working with our partners at The Kentucky Center, along with local, state and federal health authorities, to put a health and safety plan in place for all fall performances. We will communicate that plan to our ticketholders well in advance of the first show.

Thank you to our subscribers, as well as everyone in our community who has rallied behind Louisville’s performing arts throughout the pandemic, for your continued support and understanding. We are so grateful to have you as a member of our theatrical family. Broadway is coming back, and we know it’ll be worth the wait!

Audience Interview: Leslie Broecker: President of Broadway Across America Midwest

On a normal year, Broadway Across America produces thousands of performances across the country and the world. This year, there have been none since April. That being said, Broadway’s creative aspirations and dedication to the stage has not waned at all. Just like the rest of us, the actors, actresses, producers, directors, staff, and volunteers at Broadway and all of our performing arts groups are anxiously waiting for the stages to shine bright once again.

Audience publisher, G. Douglas Dreisbach, caught up with the President of Broadway Across America’s Midwest Division, Leslie Broecker, to talk about how the organization is dealing with the challenges of the last nine months, how the team has adjusted, and what the future might hold.

Louisville Music Icons Unveil Lift up Louisville Song – Check it out!

When it comes to creativity, Louisville certainly is at the top of its game. Once again, the creative minds of musicians around the city have collaborated to create an uplifting video that features lyrics and landmarks from around Louisville.

The song and musicians were organized by Louisville Orchestra Music Director Teddy Abrams. It features two dozen artists from different backgrounds from bluegrass to rock. Included in the long list of contributors are Jim James and Patrick Hallahan of My Morning Jacket, singer/songwriter Will Oldham, cellist/composer Ben Sollee, Scott Carney of Wax Fang, percussionist Dani Markham, hip hop star Jecorey Arthur, gospel singer Jason Clayborn, singer Carly Johnson and others from Louisville’s music scene.

BROADWAY IN LOUISVILLE’S PRESENTATION OF ANASTASIA HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 4-9 AT THE KENTUCKY CENTER

PNC Broadway in Louisville has announced that the engagement of ANASTASIA, originally scheduled to play March 17-22, 2020 at The Kentucky Center, has been rescheduled for August 4-9, 2020. Ticket holders of the original engagement dates will be able to use their existing tickets for entry to the new dates on the same corresponding day/performance time.

“Thank you for your patience as we have navigated this unprecedented situation,” says Leslie Broecker, president of PNC Broadway in Louisville. “In uncertain times, it is art that we turn to for escapism, joy, and comfort.
