The Kentucky Center: Magnificent Milestones and Memories

As we embark on a new chapter for The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, we wanted to celebrate by looking back at monumental moments, milestones and supporters over the years that have made The Kentucky Center what it is today.
It all started back in 1980 when The Kentucky General Assembly helped to establish a major public/private partnership to create The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. Just like it continues to do today, it was originally created to promote state culture and tourism, provide a home for Louisville’s prominent performing arts groups, and enable citizens to see international and nationally renowned artists.

Kentucky Opera’s ‘Opera Gala’ Goes BOLD at the Louisville Marriott Downtown Saturday, February 2, 2019

Kentucky Opera goes BOLD with its signature fundraising event ‘Opera Gala’ on Saturday February 2 at 6 PM. Guests are encouraged to be daring in their dress for one of Louisville’s best Black Tie affairs as Kentucky Opera creates an atmosphere to shake up the senses — including bold cocktails, dramatic lighting, performances by Kentucky Opera singers, Cirque Louis, and Wax Factory. The event will be hosted by Kentucky Opera’s General Director, Barbara Lynne Jamison. Cocktail hour will feature acrobatics from Cirque Louis, Brown-Forman BOLD Martinis and Manhattans, silent auction, and a specialty wine bar provided by Jackson Family Wines, and an amazing silent auction. The Louisville Orchestra Presents: POPS: The Midtown Men – Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 PM – The Kentucky Center

The high-octane musical tour de force that took the Jersey Boys phenomenon to Broadway and beyond, brings to life the greatest hits of the Sixties, rocking performing arts centers and symphony halls across the continent. THE MIDTOWN MEN are the four lead cast members from the original Broadway show and they bring the hits of the Sixties with their crisp Rat-Pack style to our stage for a Valentine treat. (more…)

The Kentucky Center and 91.9 WFPK presents: An Evening with Béla Fleck – Feb. 17 @ 7 PM – Bomhard Theater


Béla Fleck has reinvented the image and sound of the banjo through his remarkable performing, recording, and composing career. He has won 16 GRAMMY Awards across Folk, Pop, Jazz, Classical, and World music categories. He has received 30 GRAMMY nominations in more categories than any other instrumentalist.
Having participated in many different musical ensembles – New Grass Revival, Strength in Numbers, and the Flecktones, to name a few – and collaborated with artists including Chick Corea, Edgar Meyer, and Zakir Hussain – this Louisville performance will give our audience the opportunity to enjoy Béla “solo.”

Actors Theatre of Louisville Presents: Pipeline – January 8 – February 2, 2019 – Bingham Theatre

Before rehearsals for Pipeline began, director Steve H. Broadnax III shared what he loves about Dominique Morisseau’s writing, and why he’s excited to return to Actors Theatre and bring this play to life for Louisville audiences.

“I am one of the primary directors of Dominique Morisseau’s work, and she’s also a friend of mine. I just love her voice. It ’s a voice of activism, one that gives a platform to communities who aren’t often heard—especially African-American communities and the working class.
