Overview: Ken-David Masur, the next generation of the talented Masur family, is making his mark as a bold and fearless conductor whose performances with the Boston Symphony are thrilling audiences. He makes his LO debut conducting our own principal oboist as soloist and Brahms’s first significant symphonic work.
In April 1945 in a Bavarian town, American serviceman and musician John de Lancie asked the elderly Richard Strauss (1864-1949) if he would write a concerto for his instrument, the oboe. Strauss said “No,” but in October 1945 the Oboe Concerto was ready for its premiere. Our own principal oboe, Alex Vvedenskiy, steps into the spotlight for this concert.
